The fight with oneself

There is no doubt that the biggest fight or challenge we will ever face is the fight with oneself

It's a kind of a contradiction really when we find ourselves in an unhappy place in many aspects of our life and then realise that it is ourselves that is the problem and not the outside world. This happened because of an outside influence etc but deep down we already know that the responsibility was pretty much our own. If we can manage to bring ourselves to a point where we can take even partial responsibility for our situations then we are well on the way to managing our own lives. 

It is commonly known at this stage that our perceptions and actions determine our life up to this point and if you are in a place where you are not happy with it then it is up to you to change those perceptions and actions that will eventually change your situations whatever it may be. If you are overweight for example and feeling depressed about this, then there is no magic bullet but to change your own perceptions and actions revolving around this worry and begin to address this issue.

The same can be applied to any area that you are unhappy about. Are you happy about your financial situation and if you are not then what are you going to do about this? You have probably realised that dwelling in the same mindset does not improve your situation so a new perception and action must be required in order to address that worry.  

So where does someone begin with all of this you might ask or what if you have a whole series of issues you are not happy with. How can you tackle all of this in one time and my answer is you cannot as you will become overwhelmed and go back to the same old ways once again. Each area where you are unhappy must be carefully considered and attempted in stages and in those stages, tiny little steps each day until you can handle the required load for major changes.  

When we are in a distressed stage, we tend not to eat right, exercise and our thinking is all over the place. This alone causes all sorts of health issues which exacerbates your already problems and you find yourself in a vicious circle of events that keep you in a state of unhappiness. This circle can be very hard to break as you are wrapped up in it with new problems coming up on a daily basis.

By now you will begin to see the importance of the tiny steps i mentioned earlier. Tackling everything at once at the very beginning is a recipe for disaster as there is some too much emotion attached to each issue that has brought you to this unhappy place.

Attempting to get the basics right first is where you should begin. By eating right and getting some exercise into your weekly routine. This might sound very boring for some people reading this but you will be very surprised at how many people do not do this in their lives. When you are physically in decent shape and are eating the right foods you are in a far better place to make decisions for your own wellbeing. 

The mere fact that you are looking after yourself this way will demonstrate that you care about your appearance, health and state of mind. If you care about that then you will care about the rest and be in a much better position to make choices on career, finances, family or whatever changes are needed in your life.

I am not suggesting that you train for a marathon or be in competition while exercising but to simply get out for a walk, swim or whatever you enjoy doing. Three or four times a week is all that is needed and that alone will start to reduce weight and build muscle so you are more flexible and mentally stimulated for the week.

This is not a hard thing to do if you have a little motivation and the willingness to make some small changes in your lifestyle. The very least that will happen is you will look better, feel better, sleep better and be a little more positive about life in general. Who wouldn't want that and this can be so easily done with very little effort. 

To those of you who are reading this and are looking to make the first steps of changing, I give you a challenge. Go out for a long walk and really think about what i just said. Go through all that endless possibilities that are available to you if you just commit and do it in tiny stages so you don't get overwhelmed. Set just one target.

I will walk for 4 days of the week or I will eat less sweet things for the week. Set whatever you want and stick to it just for one week and see if you can do it. If you do that and succeed then you have the potential to do anything you put your mind to.  If you are inclined, send me an email of your success and I will respond to encourage you.
